Horrific experience with Hertz in Rome Fiumicino. Rented a car that had a tire blown as soon as I started driving it. Called the Hertz location in Fiumicino and no answer. Called multiple times, but no answer. Had to call the US number only to get transferred to Road Side assistance for Canada? Ended up changing the tire myself then drove to my hotel. Kept calling Hertz in Rome (total of 8 times that day) but no answer. Tried calling Naples (no answer), Milano (no answer) and Salerno (answered but told me I wasn't covered because Hertz had franchised their business in Italy?). Suggested I pay for the flat myself and be on my way. In order to salvage my trip, I did just that. Only to find that the tire had prior damage in two places and it was unlikely that it could withstand another "patch" job. Nevertheless, I paid the fee for just that and tried to get ahold of Rome Hertz another 14 times over 4 days. No answer! The car sat parked because the newly patched tire went flat again! Seriously, I can't make this stuff up. Called the US again without help as they simply said I needed to deal directly with Rome Hertz only. I used Twitter to get a road side assistance number for Italy and the towed the car finally, while I had 5 days left on my rental. They refused to take me to Hertz to get a replacement saying I needed to pay a taxi for that (I was 60 miles away from the nearest location). I simply told them to keep the car and I would deal with it upon my return to Rome via another means. When I got to Rome, they had the nerve to charge me for a one way drop off charge in addition to my full contracted rate. NEVER AGAIN WILL I RENT FROM HERTZ/DOLLAR/THRIFY.

Fantastic car. Comfortable and drove well. New too.

Having to wait 2 hours in Rome to check-in with our reservation. A line ordering system that did not make any sense (draw a number for two other companies but not Dollar). Then, stand around because there was only standing room only. Really not efficient.

The agent that helped me at the Rome airport (Mr. Giancarlo) was very helpful, he explained all the extra options like upgrades and insurance in a professional way with out like usually happens at car rental pushing them on to the customer.

Worst experience ever. Rented a nice luxury Mercedes for my honeymoon and when we arrived they had a 3 hr line and then didn’t have a car for me. Ended up sticking me in a terrible tiny little fiat with the most uncomfortable and dangerous ride for my pregnant wife. I have never been so upset

The insurance was so high and that was not mentioned when booking the car online. The VAT as well. I would not rent the car if that was mentioned in the site. I found that totally not fear.

The service at Rome airport where we picked up the car was really, really bad. We had to wait 3hours to see an agent in order to get our car. Very crowded people yelling at the agents. And we lost nearly half day of our vacation waiting for a rental car. Very bad Avis needs to look into this.

Very difficult to find this rental office--it was in a different building than all the others and instead of Ace was called Goldcar! They also put a huge deposit on my card, which better come off.

Pick up was extremely slow at the counter. I requested the $11 per day insurance rate offered in my initial package and was told it was not available, doubling the charge for insurance. Car pick up was poorly executed. GPS was given to me in incorrect language and was not charged. Request for review of any nicks prior to leaving was declined because I had "full insurance" Check in was very smooth upon return. I would like to request the insurance be billed at $11.00 per day and a refund for the balance.

The airport office didn't have my reservation They were rude and unhelpful They tried to charge me twice the amount quoted for a different car and then told me I had to wait for it for 3 additional hours in a non air condition garage with temperatures at 95 degrees plus. I had to pay 70 Eur to go to Rome by taxi and rented a car in Rome. Shame on this company it was disgraceful

They lied about requiring an international driver's license in an attempt to get additional insurance from me. None of the other agencies required that. Additionally, Ace Car Rental doesn't exist, they are a broker and don't disclose that clearly in their communications. I had to ask several people before finally finding an agency who had my reservation. It was a nightmare and I ended up canceling and renting from a different agency.

My reservation was not held for me so I needed to pay for a much larger and more expensive vehicle that I didn't need. Also, when I figured out that I needed to extend my rental reservation for another day, I had to make nearly 30 phone calls over 3 days just to get someone to pick up their phone and talk to me. Once the call was finally answered I was not helped at all and ended up paying a large late fee. I am unlikely to use Goldcar or Kayak again.

This is the third time I used Budget / Avis. Avis scammed me twice in a row so I went with Budget this time. Turns out they have the same policies and employees so bait and swap!!!!

If they didn’t keep downgrading me AND CHARGING MORE for a DOWNGRADE! They say they are sold out. No other options for a comparable rate/car and try to upsell luxury cars at $600 a day!

Although the first car received did not have a GPS, as requested, we were given an upgrade to compensate for the lost time switching cars.

Return location was difficult to find with a GPS.........it would have been a nightmare without a GPS!

The car was good. The customer support lady was great and she gave us a refund on the mistakes they made with us.

The desk clerk, we was not clear and was no willing to explain why we did not get what we reserved. They did not accept debit card because it is Electron. They wanted 2 credit cards to complete the contract. They didn't accept the Allianz car insurance and we had to pay extra for their own insurance. They gave us a smaller category and kept the same rate. The Said their fuel was cheaper and it wasn't. Will go with a different company next time.
