A one-way flight is a ticket that takes you from your starting point to your destination without including a return trip. The cost of one-way versus round-trip tickets depends on factors like where you’re flying, which airline you use, and your booking timing. These days, budget airlines and increased competition mean one-way tickets can sometimes be just as affordable, especially for domestic or short-haul flights. That said, for international or long-haul travel, round-trip fares are often the better deal. You can also save by booking two separate one-way tickets on different airlines, a strategy known as a “hacker fare.”

Most airlines, including budget carriers that specialize in shorter routes, offer one-way tickets. Popular choices among Cheapflights users include Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines, with 32% and 16% of one-way bookings, respectively. However, keep in mind that some destinations with strict visa requirements may require proof of onward travel. While your airline may sell one-way tickets, it’s worth checking if your destination requires additional documentation, particularly for international trips.

According to Cheapflights data, some of the best deals for one-way domestic flights in the past two weeks were Cebu City to Ozamiz at ₱747; Tacloban City to Cebu City at ₱873; and Davao City to Zamboanga City at ₱989.

You can score cheap one-way tickets to international destinations too. Recent Cheapflights data highlights some incredible deals, like Davao City to Hong Kong for ₱1,240; Manila to Bandar Seri Begawan for ₱1,815; and Manila to Hong Kong for ₱2,449.
