On the western side of Viti Levu is Nadi. Once a small farming community, it’s grown in recent years becoming Fiji’s third largest city with a population of nearly 20,000. Most travellers who book flights to Nadi stop by on their way from the airport, since the international airport is conveniently located there. But apart from just passing through, visitors who stay for a few days are pleasantly surprised with all it has to offer: golf, diving shopping and some good restaurants.
The outskirts of the city provide a good break from busy Nadi Town. Denarau Island to the west is a stunning creek and forest area where visitors can go for some peace and quiet. Or for a more adventurous side trip, the Nausori Highlands to the east provide some of the best mountain trekking in the country. So when you do book a flight to Nadi remember to pack a pair of comfortable walking shoes.
Nadi is a year-round destination with a tropical climate: mild temperatures and rainfall.
Flying is the easiest way to get around Fiji’s islands. Once in Nadi taxis are easily found and sometimes stationed at local hotels and resorts. Buses will be a cheaper option though, especially between major cities. You can find comfortable, air-conditioned buses on Fiji Express.
